DD's Style File - Outfit Inspiration from Kylie Jenner

I'm not the least bit ashamed to admit that sometimes, on an occasion or two, I've been inspired by one of the Kardashian klan (like this here shirt). I even may or may not have been an avid Keeping up with the Kardashian's viewer at some point or another.

So, yeah, they can be influencers. And to my own surprise...this time it was Kylie that got me.

Kylie's coat: Guess

When I saw Kylie all bedecked in fur and leather it was a total "hello" moment, there's something I could appreciate about such a bold outfit choice. Now, let me preface this by saying, I didn't actually jump up and go buy a coat similar to Kylie's. I just so happened to already have it. I'd picked it up a while ago and hadn't worn it yet.

I'm not exactly sure how Kylie managed to pull it off in seemingly sunny, warm weather, but mine definitely fit the bill for one of our first day's of snowfall. I think she may have gone with a tank top underneath, where I needed full-on turtleneck coverage.

Coat: Forever 21  (another option)
Leather leggings: Express
Booties: Amazon
Turtleneck: Merona
Clutch: Payless

And since I'm not all rich and serious, I grabbed a fun clutch to wear with my furry statement coat. But this is certainly a simple way to sexify your holiday!

As I type this post, I'm thinking of all the presents that still need wrapped. Which is basically all of them. Ugh...my lovely Christmas tree looks so lonely without presents.... I hope all of you are feeling stress free and ready for the holidays...because I'm not!

DD's Style File - Outfit Inspiration from Jamie Chung

I saw this super cute image of Jamie Chung in June's edition of People Stylewatch, I cut it out and pinned it to my actual inspiration board. Then I immediately thought, "Hey, I've got that stuff in my closet!"

I love when I can get inspiration to pull pieces together that I already own! Especially when it gives me an idea that I hadn't thought of.

As much as I love scarves, instead of going with a scarf, I added a leopard print tassel and gold monogram letter to my bag.

Dress:JCPenney (similar)
Bag: Gap via Poshmark (similar)
Shoes: JCPenney (similar)
Tassle: JustFab
Where adorable Miss Jamie's dress came from Banana Republic, I snagged mine at an end of season sale at JCPenney last year for about $7.

Perfect little ensemble for weekend brunch!

Solange Be Slaying 'Em

Beyoncé who??

Ok, I kid, I kid! I do have love for Queen Bey, I'll even admit that I'm a fan, but these days when it comes to the Knowles sisters, it's the baby sister, Ms. Solange that's ringing my fashion bell.

She rocks big hair and don't care all while serving us up a plate of fabulousness with a dash of quirkiness, let's take a style journey, shall we....

Here, Princess Solo rocks a contemporary mod look, in a little belted mini dress covered in large dots paired with a modern T-strap pump. And although I know that hair isn't all hers, it's everything! A+!

How about chic? Solange, seen here in a Stéphane Rolland number, a white jumpsuit with ruffled shoulders, is perfection!  A minimal nude strappy pump and zero jewelry adornment allows this jumpsuit to take center stage. I give this two snaps in a circle -werk!

So you say you dig regal, well Miss Solange gives us a lesson in regal with another showstopper by Stéphane Rolland Couture, a gown of sheer flowing nude fabric with a matching leotard underneath.

Now, this is what you call gone with the wind fabulous. Miss Kenya Moore, please take note.

The Incomparable Ms. Hill

This week I'm promoting style cues from the amazingly talented songstress and lyricist extraordinaire, Ms. Lauryn Hill. Being that she's been none too fond of the limelight and public appearances in recent years, I consider it to be a special occasion to see her performing at Hot 97's Summer Jam.

Inspired by Lauryn Hill

By pairing plaid and  horizontal stripes with elegant chiffon palazzo pants it creates a structured, yet feminine look that's ready for a client lunch or a dinner date!

Beverly Johnson Heads to Reality TV

The first black model to be highlighted on the cover of Vogue magazine in 1974, the fabulous Beverly Johnson, is heading to reality TV. With over 500 magazine covers, an acting career, a book and a successful beauty company, the 59-year-old model has partnered with Oprah and will premiere "Beverly's Full House" on the OWN network on March 31st.

So this is in honor of the still striking diva.
Get 'em, Beverly!

Inspired by Beverly Johnson '74

Instead of matching Bev's look item for item, I stuck with the premise but decided to take a modern twist on her black and white oxfords.  As a side note, that easy breezy striped shirtdress is currently on sale at Brooks Brothers for $64.75.

The Future's So Bright...

Take a note from Lady B's style book. For an easy date night look at a recent Knicks game with her hubby, Beyonce turned a pair of skinny jeans and basic white tee into something a bit more chic by simply tossing on a blazer in a saturated color and sexy pumps. Keeping baby Blue in mind, she continues to pay homage to her newest joy with polished blue tips.

Inspired by Beyonce

J Crew elbow length tee, $33
Forever 21 light weight jacket, $28
Black jeans, $22
Luichiny black pumps, $81
Deena Ozzy studded handbag, $39
BLUE CROWN Sundance Square Sunglasses, $9.99
Imperial Blue Nail Polish, $2.80

Traditional with a Twist

There is nothing more chic to me than a sheath dress with long or three quarter length sleeves. I have a black, boatneck Laundry by Shelli Segal in a jersey knit that is my go to "little black dress" (I got it for a steal on eBay), but some days you might want to take a detour from the traditional "little black" or even "little red" dress.

If you want to stand out and let your confidence shine, switch things up a bit with a traditional cut done in a fabulous print or punchy bright like these fab ladies:

Tracee Ellis Ross

Mary J. Blige

Viola Davis

I have to say, I love Viola Davis in that pink! She has worn that color before as a compliment to her skin tone, but the classic simplicity of that dress paired with such a powerful shade of pink really was a great match!

Keep reading a few diva-fied selections for you...

The Original Diva

Long before my Barbie obsessed days, I fondly recall watching the blonde bombshell, Miss Piggy, and all her ferocious sassiness on the Muppet Show.
The Incomparable - Miss Piggy

A girlie girl with a mean left hook and a glamazon fashionista in every since of the word! After the comeback success of their recent Muppet movie this past fall, I've been pleased as punch to see Miss P gracing the glossy pages of fashion mags W, InStyle and others. She inspired me for today's celeb style book post...a Parisian infused look done in primary colors.
Who, moi?
Short cocktail prom dress, £44
Dorothy Perkins black mary jane heels, $57
Lauren Ralph Lauren glass necklace, $44
Pewter jewelry, $75
Leather glove, $48
Black wool beret, $5.95

Cool Hues

Solange Knowles deserves her props as a fashion plate. She takes a trend and makes it her own and it is obvious that she marches to her own beat, and it works! I've come to admire the risks Solange takes and I think she has a great understanding for what really works for her. So, I used her for my celeb style inspired post today.

This outfit shows that just because the weather has cooled (ok, drastically changed), doesn't mean that color can't keep you looking hot. Solange paired pale mixes of sky blue and melon alongside vivid brights like an orange coat and a clutch in a pop of teal to pull this look together.

Cool Colors

Miss Selfridge polyester shirt, £28
ASOS single breasted coat, $90
Knee length skirt, $49
Report high heel shoes, $75
Melie Bianco envelope clutch bag, $48
Gogo Philip cuff jewelry, $27
MARC By Marc Jacobs Enamel Huggie Hoops, $48

Fashionable Fall

Be fashion forward and simply chic this fall with a look inspired by Lala Vasquez-Anthony. Lala pulled her look together with leather leggings, an elbow length cape and suede over the knee boots paired with minimal accessories. The neutral camel tones kept the sexiness of the look at bay and upped the class factor.

The color green doesn't just have to make you feel froggy, take a style note from Sanaa Lathan who looked resplendent in a figure flattering Haute Hippie dress at a recent event. With a few remaining dog days of summer, hit the town in gorgeous green paired with a pair of spicy leopard pumps.
